BC Hospitality Foundation | Scholarship Program

The BC Hospitality Foundation has several scholarships available for individuals in the hospitality industry throughout BC. Deadlines and application criteria varies.

BC Hospitality Foundation Industry Scholarship

Up to three Industry Scholarships are available annually for children of hospitality workers who have worked in the industry for 5+ years. This is a legacy scholarship to support families in the industry.

One winner will receive the Pat Gaudet Memorial Scholarship, sponsored by the BC Wine Appreciation Society.


  • Parent(s) have worked in the Industry for at least 5 years
  • Child has a GPA of 2.5 or higher on latest transcript
  • Child is planning on studying for a career in the hospitality industry
  • 400 word essay on why the child wants to work in the Hospitality Industry
  • Academic Transcripts
  • Two (2) reference letters from non-family members

Applications for Industry Scholarships are due by August 31, 2017; awarded in Fall 2017.

Sommelier Scholarships

Every year, the BCHF awards up to four $1,000 scholarships to further wine education studies. These scholarships are sponsored by Okanagan Crush Pad and Authentic Wine & Spirits Merchants. Students applying must currently work in the hospitality and/or wine industry, in British Columbia. Students must have completed WSET Level 3, ISG Level 2 or the Certified Sommelier Examination via the Court of Master Sommeliers. Students should have an application to their next course in progress when applying for a scholarship.

Applications are EASY and the award is substantial.

A committee is tasked with selecting the winners.


  • Cover Letter
  • 500-word essay on why the student needs & deserves a $1000 scholarship from the BC Hospitality Foundation
  • A copy of academic transcripts – WSET, ISG or Court of Master Sommeliers
  • Two (2) reference letters from non-family members

Applications for next year’s Sommelier Scholarships are due January 31, 2018 and awarded in March 2018.

Hospitality Scholarships

Hospitality Scholarship recipients are chosen by respective program deans, chairs and faculty from each eligible post-secondary institution from students who are enrolled in their second or fourth year of study and at least 19 years old.

Eligible Post-Secondary Institutions Include:

  • Royal Roads University
  • Selkirk College
  • Thompson Rivers University
  • University of the Fraser Valley
  • University of Victoria
  • Vancouver Community College
  • Vancouver Island University

Hospitality Scholarships are sponsored by: Boston Pizza, British Columbia Hotel Association (The Richard Gibbons Scholarship & The Lothar Heinrich Scholarship), British Columbia Restaurant and Food Services Association (The George Tidball Scholarship), Delta Hotels and Resorts,Gordon Food Services, KPMG, Pacific Gateway Hotel, Silver Birch Hotels & Resorts, Sysco, Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association and White Spot (The Peter Toigo Sr. Scholarship).

Culinary Scholarships

Five culinary scholarships are awarded in partnership with the Chefs’ Table Society of BC each fall. The Chef’s Table Society of BC selects the students and the Foundations funds the scholarships.


The Greg King Scholarship at Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts

In conjunction with the BC Hospitality Foundation and Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts, the King Family is pleased to offer an exclusive $1,500 scholarship.

Greg King was a 22-year-old with a huge passion for cooking, he knew at age 10 that was what he wanted to do. His dream was to follow this passion through his life and eventually own his own restaurant. Greg had wanted to attend Pacific Institute of Culinary Arts; sadly, Greg passed away August 2014 in a car accident and was unable to fulfill his dream. Whoever receives this scholarship should have the same passion and hard work as Greg King.

Applications for this scholarship are accepted until February 28, 2017, after which a selection committee will review and select the recipient, who will be awarded on April 4, 2017.
