Sommelier Scholarship Recipients 2018

This year, the BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) is awarding 4 Sommelier Scholarships to students currently working in the hospitality and/or wine industry who are furthering their wine education.

The scholarships, each worth $1,000, are sponsored by Okanagan Crush Pad and Authentic Wine & Spirits Merchants.

The BCHF is pleased to announce the following individuals have been selected to receive the scholarships:

Alex Anderson – Tap Restaurant
Jenna Briscoe – Café Medina
Kelcie Jones – Chambar Restaurant
Peter Van de Reep – Campagnolo Restaurant

The winning applicants for the 2018 scholarship were chosen from a very competitive field of 22 applicants. Applications were accepted from individuals who had previously completed WSET Level 3, ISG Level 2, or the Certified Sommelier Examination via the Court of Master Sommeliers. Each applicant was required to submit a 500-word essay on why they deserved a scholarship, as well as copies of their academic transcripts and 2 reference letters. Submissions were evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges.

The BCHF will formally present the scholarships at the Vancouver International Wine Festival Awards Lunch that will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018.

The BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) is best known for providing financial assistance to hospitality industry members who are facing an extraordinary financial crisis due to health or injury, but the charitable organization also helps develop the next generation of industry members by offering a range of scholarships.
