The BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) is pleased to announce a partnership with the Chinese Restaurant Awards (CRA) where the BCHF will sponsor a scholarship for students enrolled at Vancouver Community College’s Asian culinary arts program. Funding for this scholarship has been pledged through spring 2018. The announcement was made on March 2, 2016 at the 8th Annual Chinese Restaurant Awards celebration at the River Rock Show Theatre in Richmond, BC.

The Chinese Restaurant Awards has supported the ever-evolving Chinese culinary scene in Vancouver for eight years, helping it develop a reputation as one of the best places in the world for Chinese cuisine outside of China. Chinese cuisine is influencing chefs of other cultures, ways of cooking, and flavour profiles across the Lower Mainland. Students interested in a culinary career may choose to study at VCC’s Asian culinary arts program. The program allows young chefs to explore Chinese, Japanese, Malaysian, Thai, Singaporean, Vietnamese, Korean, and fusion cuisine. This certificate is designed to prepare students for entry-level careers as cooks in the hotel, restaurant, and food service industry.

“The opportunity to announce the new partnership at the Chinese Restaurant Awards gala allowed us to connect with many members of the Chinese restaurant industry, letting them know that we are here to help them when the need arises,” said Alan Sacks, BC Hospitality Foundation executive director. “The Chinese Restaurant Awards has established itself as an authority on Chinese gastronomic excellence, and we want to help inspire the next generation of culinary leaders.”
